Construction company Th. van ’t Hek is born

The company was founded in 1945 by Theo van 't Hek, who built an excavator on the base of an old truck. During the period of reconstruction after WWII, Theo sees the possibility to using the machine for piling and focuses entirely on this. Several Dutch piling rigs are soon put to use. In 1954 Co, his brother, joins the company and the name was changed to Gebroeders van 't Hek (Van 't Hek Brothers).

After their father died in 1958, they took over his construction company in Hoorn. The company then becomes an all-round contractor focused on the construction of bridges and quay walls and the preparation for construction projects in residential areas. Pile driving remains the core business.

Halfway through the sixties, Jan and Co van 't Hek the second generation brothers join the company. During this period, the company specialises in ramming prefab concrete piles and vibratory driven sheet piling.

In the 1970s, the company brings in projects that the larger piling companies haven't taken on, for example, hardwood bridges, noise barriers along highways and piling and vibratory work involving water.

In 1985 Gebr. van 't Hek takes over sheet piling company De Jong from the city Hoorn. At that time this was big step forward and their capacity increased considerably. The company manages the realisation of increasingly difficult sheet pile structures in tricky locations places; city centres, on the water and from auxiliary constructions.

Growth and entrepreneurship

In the 1990s, the company expands the fleet of equipment and materials further, and adopts even larger and more complex projects.

For this reason, the engineering firm Hektec was founded in 1996. After acquisitions in 2003 (De Waalpaal) and 2009 (steel construction company Van der Linden and Kuipers Funderingstechnieken from Lemmer) the van 't Hek Group comes into play, with Gebr. van 't Hek as largest subsidiary.

Gebr. van 't Hek also continues to grow. For example, in 2005 the HEKpile was released onto the market. This ground displacement and vibration-free screw pile is such a success that the company significantly develops this field, also by introducing new pile variants such as the Screw-Combi-pile.

Also in terms of steel sheet piling, investments are made in vibratory-free foundation solutions. As such, Gebr. van 't Hek themselves develop a versatile sheet piling pressing machine (the van 't Hek Quattro Piler). With the acquisition of the equipment from Van Halteren, Gebr. van 't Hek, since 2015, now also has various hydraulic vibratory and ABI-printing machines.

Despite the size and the scale of the Organisation, Gebr. van ’t Hek is a tightknit family company in which entrepreneurship and direct lines of communication are paramount.
